Conceptual Monochrome Shirtdress Project 2011

Ahh... Projects!

Our first project as Fashion students, I got it 4 weeks ago though... I´m a slow updater, gomenasai!
um, well... this is a conceptual project where we were given the words Sportswear Couture (For the Performance Sportswear students), Hyperculture and Cinematic.
I chose Cinematic after a slow start on the research, and chose to look at Iconic women (actresses if you please) and I´m going to make a shirtdress inspired by these women.

What I´ve done is to look at their lives, and found that they all had this kind of veil between their media life and their personal life. So I´ve gone into that concept with the veil... so I´m going to use fabrics like lace, silks and chiffon. I might post some of the designs once they´re done.

I´ve also been busy with workshops these past weeks, learning to construct different patterns related to our shirt projects... just so we know what we CAN do and what we CAN´T do. We´ve done the same with our sewing workshops, we have had inductions to various sewing machines and damn do we have a lot of fancy stuff!
We have a buttonhole machine, where you can plot in the size of the buttonhole and which style it´s going to be in... and voila! finished, perfectly cut buttonhole in seconds!
we also have a blind-seam machine, which I love because Blind-seams are a pain in the ass to do by hand. And our Irish Embroidery machine <3 haven´t tested that one, but I sure will!

RAGE!!!

Oh my god... The Fashion course teachers makes my last course in Norway look like shit.
I have now realized that everything I´ve "learned" about Pattern Cutting and Construction is wrong... or rather Chihoko, my pattern-cutting-construction teacher, is teaching it in a way that I can actually understand! I, make my own patterns in seconds now! it´s like a children's game!

And at Årstad they should change the name from Design and Textiles to Sewing and Textiles... THEY-DO-NOT-KNOW-ANYTHING-ABOUT-DESIGN!!!
There are no real research, no back story behind the garments, no follow-up from the teachers, nothing!!!
and there is no knowledge passed on about how to design a collection, they don´t focus on the students - finding their VOICE.... because in design, at least in fashion design, you have a voice/style, you can instantly see who designed the collection because it has a slight breath of the designers voice in them (wow, I sound poetic)

anyway.... I think I´m done now xD

Halloween!

OMG! me and some of my Campus flatmates decided to have a little evening with Halloween gaming today D:

We ended up playing Amnesia... oh my god that game is scary when you play it in the dark ;O;
So the ones who were left in my flat were probably wondering why there was screams coming from my bedroom xD
Oh well, we didn´t get too far in the game though.... we´ll probably game more later on >83

Hi!! ... again

Um, as you see... I can´t really decide how my blogs are going to be, so I keep making new ones. But I promise I will keep this one, it looks very me and it looks professional for a change.

Now, I have now spent over a month here at University College Falmouth and my god do we have a lot to do... I have 2-3 briefs or tasks to complete within Fashion Drawing classes, one 5 week assignment in Fashion Design, and 2 briefs/tasks to complete in HATS... which is short for Histories and Theories Studies.
We share classes and classroom with both Preformance and Sportswear designers and Fashion Photographers, which is quite interesting and very inspiring! Considering that we will be working side by side with the Fashion Photographers, which will give both fabulous portfolios.

Besides that, I have to brag a little about my teachers here <3
We have John Boddy, who worked with THE Alexander McQueen in his earlier career as his assistant! can you believe that!?
I also have Jane Gottelier who together with her husband Patrick Gottelier, has run a company and founded this course 5 years ago.
We have Chihoko, my Japanese pattern constructor. She is simply adorable, I love her classes!
and many many more! I learn so much, and I am super exited about the following years here <3
